Classical 90.5 WUOL presents "Water Music on the Bridge," a free performance on the newly opened Big Four Pedestrian Bridge on Sunday, June 9 at 3:00 p.m. Musicians from the community, including Indiana University Southeast, the Concentus String Quartet, the Louisville Youth Orchestra, and the Youth Performing Arts School will collaborate to play Handel's Water Music, conducted by Jason Seber.
In 1717, King George I of England wanted a concert while he sailed up the Thames. George Frederic Handel was the composer on call, and wrote Water Music, which musicians performed on a barge (twice!) for the king.
"Handel wrote Water Music to be performed on a barge, for a king. What better way to welcome warm weather to this city, than with Handel's music on our iconic bridges," said WUOL Program Director Daniel Gilliam. "This event also brings together musicians from all ages and backgrounds, a snapshot of the rich talent in our river city."
