Classical 90.5 WUOL Hires Sara Soltau as Education Programs Manager

Classical 90.5 has hired Sara Soltau as Education Programs Manager. In this position, Soltau will manage a number of educational initiatives by the station including: the Instrumental Partners program, where gently used instruments are donated to area schoolchildren in need; the Young Artist Competition, showcasing young musicians from across the region; and Summer Listening, which encourages families to explore classical music over the summer break. She will also work towards creating new initiatives with JCPS and other schools and education programs in our listening area. Soltau will begin on March 11, 2015.

“At Classical 90.5, we believe in the value of exposing children to classical music and the fine arts. We’ve engaged younger audiences through Instrumental Partners and other programs, but we want to do more. Sara Soltau will be a strong advocate for our mission to provide our community with quality cultural programming, through her passion for education and finding unique ways to connect with students and teachers," said Classical 90.5 Program Director Daniel Gilliam.

Claiming her first radio show from 3-6 am, Soltau paid her dues as a freshman DJ at WXYC Chapel Hill. She holds a Masters degree in Violin Performance, yet has always pursued other interests such as women’s prison music, creative education, nature and music, improvisation, and homemade instruments.

Although eclectic, her explorations have always supported her larger goal to use music for education and community building. She finds classical music captures a unique story, experience, and history, which she looks forward to sharing in her hometown of Louisville, KY.
