91.9 WFPK Presents James McMurtry At Derby Festival Concert

91.9 WFPK is proud to present The Derby Festival Wednesday Evening Concert at Kroger’s Fest-A-Ville on the Waterfront, Great Lawn, on Wednesday, April 28th. WFPK favorite James McMurtry and special guest will perform at 7pm following the Great Steamboat Race (6pm). This concert is free and open to the public with a 2010 Pegasus Pin®.Called the “truest, fiercest songwriter of his generation” by author Stephen King, McMurtry is also an accomplished rock guitar player. His 2006 album, “Childish Things,” spent six weeks at No. 1 on the Americana Music Radio Chart. McMurtry’s 2008 release, “Just Us Kids,” ended up on a who’s whose list of year-end best-of lists, including Entertainment Weekly, USA Today and the Americana Music Chart’s #2 Album of the Year. A protégé of John Mellencamp whose songs draw comparisons to Neil Young, the Texas-born son of famed novelist and screen-writer Larry McMurtry (Lonesome Dove, Terms of Endearment) is just as literate, politically in your face and boasting a root and roll sound as big as the state from which he hails.“James is an all-time favorite of WFPK and the fact that his next visit is part of an official Derby event makes it all that more exciting,” says WFPK Program Director Stacy Owen. Now in its fourth year, Kroger’s Fest-a-Ville on the Waterfront is a 500,000-square-foot entertainment venue featuring food and drink concessions, live concerts and children’s playground activities, among other attractions. Fest-a-Ville, which is located in Waterfront Park in downtown Louisville, opens Thursday, April 22, and runs through Friday, April 30. Hours are 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily; Saturday 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday 1 p.m. to 11 p.m.For more information on 91.9 WFPK, please visit www.wfpk.org.
