Louisville Public Media Stands with Haiti

(Louisville, KY—1/26/10) Louisville Public Media has joined the Stand with Haiti campaign! Starting today, the three stations of Louisville Public Media (89.3 WFPL, 90.5 WUOL, 91.9 WFPK) will begin fundraising on behalf of Partners in Health. PIH has served the health needs of Haiti’s poor for over 20 years. Stand with Haiti is a continuation of this support in direct response to the recent devastation of Port-au-Prince and surrounding areas. This is a very unique opportunity for LPM and public broadcasting entities in general. The FCC has a policy prohibiting noncommercial educational stations from engaging in on-air fundraising activities on behalf of any entity other than itself, where such activities alter or suspend regular programming. However, for the second time it its history (Katrina being the first), the FCC believes that, due to gravity of the damage wrought by the earthquake in Haiti, the public interest would be served. On Sunday, January 31st, WFPK will be soliciting donations from 10am to 5pm via the web or by phone (502-814-6565). The day will culminate with a 4pm WFPK broadcast performance by The Dick Sisto—Harry Pickens Duo in the LPM Performance Studio. The public can attend this first come, first seated show for a minimum donation of $10.00 at the door. The stations are accepting donations now for Partners in Health via their websites (www.wfpl.org, www.wuol.org, www.wfpk.org).For more information, please contact WFPK Program Director Stacy Owen at (502) 814-6519 or sowen@wfpk.org. For more information on Partners in Health, please visit www.pih.org.Louisville Public Media is a not-for-profit corporation and the only public radio organization in the country serving its community with three unique radio formats: 89.3 WFPL, Louisville’s NPR News Station, Classical 90.5, Louisville’s Fine Arts Station, and 91.9 WFPK Radio Louisville, an adult album alternative format station.
