After a national search, 89.3 WFPL News has hired Jonathan Bastian of Aspen Public Radio to be the local host and producer of Morning Edition. He will be the morning voice of WFPL News, and will conduct additional interviews to be aired throughout the day.
Jonathan Bastian comes to WFPL from Aspen Public Radio, where he hosted All Things Considered. He’s also the founder and host of Page by Page, a weekly interview program that was syndicated on multiple public radio stations across Colorado. He has interviewed many leading writers and thinkers in the country, including Richard Russo, Sebastian Junger, Jim Lehrer, and Jonathan Safran Foer. His work has aired nationally on NPR’s All Things Considered and he has been published at NPR.org.
“Jonathan has a great voice and is a very talented interviewer,” says Gabe Bullard, WFPL Director of News and Editorial Strategy. “We're excited to have him in the newsroom, and I think listeners will be equally pleased to hear him every morning, too.”
Devin Katayama, who served as interim host of Morning Edition, will return to reporting full time, with a focus on education.
When not on public radio, Jonathan loves to play tennis and take long bike rides. He competed in his first triathlons this summer, and dreams of someday signing up for the Louisville Ironman. He is thrilled to be the next WFPL morning host, and can’t wait to explore more of Kentucky and Indiana.
Morning Edition, NPR’s flagship news program, is “the most listened-to news radio program in the country” (NPR.org). It airs weekdays in Metro Louisville from 5-9 a.m., offering national and international news and analysis, as well as coverage of business, arts and sports.
