WFPL's Erica Peterson Awarded 2015 Energy and Climate Media Fellowship

Erica Peterson, 89.3 WFPL Environment Reporter and Managing Editor, has been selected as one of only three journalists to receive the Transatlantic Energy and Climate Network's 2015 Energy and Climate Media Fellowship from the The Heinrich Böll Foundation.

The goal of these fellowships is to create opportunities for American journalists to research and report stories from Europe about European approaches to energy and climate policy that would inform policy debates in the United States. Peterson will use her fellowship to examine lessons Kentucky can learn from Germany’s energy portfolio; the country is a global leader in renewable energy, but as Germany phases out nuclear power, it has been relying even more on coal than it has in the past.

"I think Germany is a relevant case study for Kentucky, as state leaders look toward a future where coal plays a smaller role in Kentucky's energy mix. I'm looking forward to taking the time to examine the issues and sharing what I learn with our audience,” said Peterson.

"We are excited for Erica and looking forward to the reporting that comes from the fellowship," said Brendan McCarthy, Interim WFPL News Director. "This honor is a testament to the great work she produces for our newsroom."
